Our Mayor of the city, councillor Helen Quigley, gives her views on what we must do to rid our community of underage drinking;

We have many individual voices in our community when it comes to raising awareness about the growing numbers of underage drinkers in our society and the effects of their behaviour on our residents.  However, I believe that if we are to move forward or make any difference at all to the lives of our young children then we must come together and speak collectively as ONE VOICE to help stamp out this problem and provide our children with a better example and a brighter future.  We as parents, community workers, teachers and councillors must come together to find a solution to this problem once and for all.  It is very easy to shake your head in disgust at the latest negative headline, however, it is much harder to go out there and actively help change it!

Dr. Mc Kinney – Parents must ‘talk’ to their children about the dangers of alcohol and encourage them to realise that celebration is best remembered when you are sober!

Martin Connolly – Children you must choose your friends wisely and remember it is better to lose a friend rather than lose your life!

Catriona Barras – Parents must be aware of where their children are at all times because eventually too much freedom may lead to too much damage!

The primary seven children of Rosemount Primary School would like to relay this final message to all adults within our community with regards to underage drinking;
